Thanks-Giving

Thanksgiving. This is a word that beautifully captures the essence of both gratitude (thanks) and generosity (giving).   Those two virtues are intertwined, which leads to the question, could it be because they are inseparable?

From that perspective, we could say that one is meaningless without the other.  Giving without the humility of gratitude can lead to a sense of arrogance.  And gratitude without a willingness to give can foster selfishness. However, when gratitude and generosity are brought together, they overflow into a life filled with joy, purpose and fulfillment for the good of the giver and receiver.

So, as we gather together this day and reflect on the things we are thankful for, embrace the true meaning of Thanksgiving by recognizing that it is not just a day on the calendar.  It is not circumstantial.  Instead, let’s see it as an attitude, a way of life that invites us on a daily basis to thank God, thank others, and put our gratitude into action through giving of our lives for good.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
